Tuxedomoon "Seismic Riffs" DVD
Legendary US group Tuxedomoon were scattered to the four corners of the earth, each member developing his unique solo career. When a mysterious man invited them to meet in Cagli, Italy, they embarked on production of Cabin In The Sky, their first official album in fifteen years. Director Merrill Aldighieri documented their journey in 2003/2004 through concert hall and studio as the new album took shape.
The result is “Seismic Riffs”, a 62-minute documentary on the making of “Cabin In The Sky” featuring studio footage, interviews and live performances of Cagli Five-0 / Baron Brown / Diario di un egoista / Luther Blisset / A Home Away as well as new renditions of Tuxedomoon classics such as Desire / Loneliness / Litebulb Overkill / Volo Vivace / The Waltz…
Seismic Riffs was written, shot and edited by Emmy award-winning director Merrill Aldighieri, who had first met Tuxedomoon on-stage at a NYC niteclub called Hurrah. An excerpt from that first collaboration is included in the bonus clips.
"Whaa!", the awaited 3rd 'official' album by Zuco 103 to be released in May.
“Whaa!”, the awaited 3rd ‘official’ album by Zuco 103
World/electronic/pop fusion pioneers Zuco 103 have included new ingredients in their multicultural blend.
To the now-familiar jazz, Brazilian and electronic components of their music, Zuco 103 have added Afro-Cuban, Ethiopian, West-African and dub spicings, which makes Whaa! a potent, organic and delicious brew… dub/reggae legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry makes inspired, irresistible -and rare- appearances in two songs, and Dani Macaco, the lead singer with popular Spanish world fusion band Macaco appears in another. Out in May.
"Rive Gauche Rio", the new album by Celso Fonseca to be released end of April
The follow-up to the acclaimed “Natural” album is every bit as warm, inspired, elegant & sensual… Celso‘s caressing voice and splendid guitar playing are in top form… contains a duet with Uruguayan singer/guitarist Jorge Drexler (who just won the Oscar for best song in a film soundtrack), and a cover of Damien Rice‘s “Delicate”. Out end of April.
"About A Girl" DualDisc EP to be released in May.
"About A Girl” DualDisc EP, by Cibelle, featuring 4 new tracks and 4 videos, to be released in May.
Her debut album established her as one of the most original and seductive young artists to come out of Brazil. Cibelle is about to do a giant leap forward with the new album she’s now working on. This limited-edition EP points to the new directions she’s exploring (more folk, more microbeats, more sonic inventivity...). The CD side contains four new songs, including the title track, a cover of an early Nirvana song. The DVD side contains four videos made by young filmmaker Elsa Dahmani (Tony Gatlif’s daughter) and by Cibelle herself. Out in May.
A volley of great new Crammed releases about to be fired !
While the new albums by DJ Dolores and Konono N°1 are barely out, Crammed are getting ready to fire a volley of important new releases:
1. “Rive Gauche Rio”, the new album by Celso Fonseca
The follow-up to the acclaimed “Natural” album is every bit as warm, inspired, elegant & sensual… Celso’s caressing voice and splendid guitar playing are in top form… contains a duet with Uruguayan singer/guitarist Jorge Drexler (who just won the Oscar for best song in a film soundtrack), and a cover of Damien Rice‘s “Delicate”. 3. “About A Girl EP”, a DualDisc EP by Cibelle, featuring 4 new tracks and 4 videos.

4. “Bebel Gilberto Remixed", an album in which all the (predominantly acoustic) tracks from Bebel Gilberto‘s eponymously-titled second album are given new interpretations by a great cast of dance, hip hop and electronica remixers including DJ Spinna, Thievery Corporation, Yam Who?, Nuspirit Helsinki, Tom Middleton, Spiritual South, Dubstar’s Steve Hillier, Telefon Tel Aviv and more… The initial pressing will be a limited edition including a second CD with 6 additional remixes by John Beltran, Spiritual South, Tom Middleton, Nuspirit Helsinki, Yam Who? and Bombay Dub Orchestra. Out end of May.
5. Congotronics vol.2 : hot in the footsteps of the Konono N°1 album, this set will introduce five other amazing “tradi-modern” bands from the Congo… They’re all playing electrified traditional music, with distorted, amplified percussion, but some of them also use guitars… This will also be a DualDisc: a full audio album on one side, and a DVD (with footage filmed by Vincent Kenis while he recorded these bands in Kinshasa) on the other… the audio side will also contain a new Konono N°1 track, as well as remixes by Matthew Herbert and Tortoise’s John McEntire. Out in June.

DJ Dolores 'Aparelhagem'
DJ Dolores burst onto the global club scene a couple of years ago with his explosive and highly original mixture of traditional sounds from the Brazilian northeast with dancefloor-friendly electronics and elements of rock & dub.
Drawing his inspiration from urban and rural musical styles traditionally shunned by the establishment but favoured by the working classes (dance rhythms such as maracatú, song forms such as emboladas), DJ Dolores blends them with loops, breakbeats, street sounds & live instrumentation to create a unique musical cocktail which is culturally & politically meaningful, yet first and foremost irresistibly festive!

CONGOTRONICS: Konono Nº1
Crammed are very excited to release the first volume of Congotronics, a series devoted to the spectacular styles of music which bloom in the suburbs of Kinshasa. These are bands who draw on traditional trance music, to which they’ve incorporated the heavily-distorted sounds generated by DIY amplification of their instruments, making their music a sonic cousin of some extreme forms of experimental rock and electronic dance music.
Congotronics 1 is the long-awaited album by Konono N°1, a band founded in the ‘70s by Mingiedi and featuring three electric likembés (thumb pianos), megaphones, hand-made microphones and percussion built from old car parts. The album was produced and recorded in Kinshasa by one of the best connoisseurs of Congolese music and old car parts, our own Vincent Kenis.

Bossacucanova "Uma Batida Diferente"
CD out now
UMA BATIDA DIFERENTE ("A Different Beat") is Bossacucanova’s third and most accomplished album for the Ziriguiboom/Crammed Discs label to date.
In these new musical adventures, DJ Dalua, Marcio Menescal and Alexandre Moreira successfully pursue the mission they had started with “Revisited Classics” (1998) and “Brasilidade” (2001): updating the classic samba and bossa nova sound and bringing it to today’s audiences. On UMA BATIDA DIFERENTE, voices, beats, cellos, acoustic guitars and samples co-exist seamlessly in perfect harmony.

Cibelle in the studio
Always bubbling with ideas & enthusiasm, Cibelle has already started writing and recording her second album. After some fruitful sessions with a mysterious collaborator in London, and two exciting co-write experiments with well-known musicians/producers (one of which is rumoured to be a Belgian expat, while the other could very well be American and/or Catalan), the wonderful one is currently working in São Paulo with Apollo 9, who produced her debut album. More news soon.
